Empty liposomes Lipid compositions could be varied in many ways depending on the use and the nature of the compound to be loaded. These liposomes can be stably stored at 5°C for a long time.
Drug loaded liposomes A weak base compound is loaded into liposomes containing preloaded drug loading battery. Drug precipitates can be seen inside the liposomes |
Lipoplexes (cationic liposome/DNA complexes). Depending on the method and conditions used the final lipoplex products could be large aggregates or much smaller and more liposome-like structure. |
Preformed liposomes Preformed liposomes can be prepared with various lipid compositions for the purpose of R&D studies. Empty liposomes with or without the desired drug loading battery inside (e.g. pH gradient or ammonium gradient) can be purchased from us. Drug loading could be readily performed at customer’s lab following our protocols. Cationic liposomes have been used for preparing lipoplex for plasmid DNA, oligos and/or siRNA. Various markers such as fluorophores and radioactive lipids can be encapsulated inside the liposome or incorporated in the membrane of the liposomes. Some examples of the use of liposomes are shown below. |
Liposomes with special functionality The distribution of liposomes in the body (left two pictures) can be imaged by gamma scintigram of radio-active liposomes, such as 111In-DTPA-liposomes. Fluorescent liposomes (right picture) can be used for cell uptake studied. Various types of markers are available for liposomes studies. |
